Breadwinner - Supplementary Cig (1994)
Side A: Knighton / Exploder
Side B: Turtlehead
Label: Merge Records
Matrix: MRG 052.5
Encoding: 48 kHz / 24 bit, V0 MP3
I can’t seem to find much on this band online. I picked up a copy of their discography disc entitled “The Burner” and later picked this up through the online Merge Records store when purchasing a copy of Polvo’s “Celebrate The New Dark Age”. Here’s their semi-bio from Merge’s website:
“Breadwinner, based out of Richmond Virginia, was comprised of: Pen Rollings (guitar), Bobby Donne (bass), and Chris Farmer (drums). Their music is the definition of math rock, a calculated and electrifying mash-up of metal signatures. Merge Records released two 7-inch singles and one full-length CD, “The Burner” (1994) after the band had broken up.

Haberdasher - Quarry (1996)
Side A: Quarry
Side B: Day Two No Sleep
Label: Reptilian Records
Matrix: REP 014
Encoding: 48 kHz / 24 bit, 320 kbps
One of the first blogs I followed years ago was Math & Noise (the last update was September 2010 unfortunately). This site introduced me to a plethora of great obscure bands; Blame Game, Mechakucha, Zs, Ahleuchatistas and Ativin to name a few.
The band that I was most excited to find was Haberdasher. Other than the post on Math & Noise there really isn’t much information out there… 1/4 of this project went on to form 1/3 of Oxes. The first song is a little different than anything else I’ve heard from Haberdasher (this including their only full length). Much more aggressive, and has some Shellac like vocals. The second side features a track “reminiscent of the early 90’s Louisville scene” that I’m familiar with.
This is a really great introduction to this band, think Slint meets Drive Like Jehu. If anyone is interested I’ll rip the full length as well. Physical copies of this 7” are still available through Reptilian Records.
